Sumana Shrestha left Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) on Sunday, expressing strong disapproval of the leadership.
Shrestha said that she decided to leave the party after she repeatedly urged the party to correct its mistakes, but in vain.
"The leadership never admitted mistakes. It kept making mistakes and everyone in the party had to bear the burden of it. It conducted media trials against those who criticized within the party. Ever since RSP started putting the party above the country and the leader above the party, I have been criticizing since then," Shrestha told Nepalkhabar after quitting RSP.
She added, "But that did not make any difference. Instead, media trials started happening. This is unacceptable. Now, do whatever you feel like doing."
Shrestha, who is also a former education minister, has suggested that the third-rung leaders of the party, including Nepali Congress, CPN (UML), also should think the way she does."
"I quit the party. Third-rung leaders of parties including NC, UML should also think about this," she told Nepalkhabar. "The unruly behavior of the leadership resulted in the current situation. Why are you still loyal to your leadership? Now is the right time to jump into action. Either remove them or quit."
