Prime Minister Sushila Karki has said that the movement led by the Gen Z on September 8 and 9 is a reflection of the aspirations of the youth generation, the growing awareness of the people, and the dissatisfaction with corruption in the country.
Speaking at the main ceremony organized in Kathmandu today on the occasion of Constitution Day (National Day-2082), she said that this movement was resulted in due to the shortcomings in the areas of good governance, prosperity, and development in accordance with the spirit of the Constitution and the dissatisfaction, shortages, or unfulfilled expectations created by it.
Prime Minister Karki said, "I have also linked this movement to the health of our democratic system because democracy is a system of listening to the people's voices, communicating, and finding solutions."
She said that the Gen Z movement is also a result of the failure to truly live up to democratic values such as the federal republican system of governance, civil liberties, fundamental rights, human rights, press freedom, an independent, impartial, and competent judiciary, the rule of law, and good governance as per the commitment expressed by the state.
She said that issues raised by the youth such as employment opportunities, quality of life, transparency in government functioning, legal equality, ending corruption, good governance and development are in fact the common expectations of all generations and the national 'agenda'. Prime Minister Karki said that the government is committed to working in line with the expectations of the people by internalizing these agendas.
