President of the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), Birendra Raj Pandey, has shared that the damage caused due to the vandalism and arson during Gen-Z protests is equivalent to nearly five percent of the gross domestic product (GDP).

At a program organized to welcome the new working committee of the Society of Economic Journalists Nepal today, President Pandey mentioned that attack on private sector in any agitation is unfortunate.

"There is huge destruction in private sector in recent agitation. The continuous attack on the private sector has not been stopped despite its remarkable contribution in country's economy, as per the preliminary estimation, there is five percent damage in GDP during the recent Gen-Z protest," he argued.

We have not been able to make understand about private sector's contribution to the civil society, politicians and general people, he added.

"Problems will persist until people's concept towards private sector is not changed. Our attention should be focused on increasing entrepreneurship and orienting youths towards it," he opined.

Stating that the protests have created doubt among investors, the CNI President emphasized that the government should pay attention to create an investment-friendly environment.

Similarly, outgoing President of CNI, Rajesh Kumar Agrawal, expressed the view that it is necessary to take VAT to multi-rate system.

Likewise, Koshi Province President of CNI, Pawan Kumar Sharada pointed out that the government should incorporate all sectors while making policies and should understand our situation while making laws.

He underlined that the Gen-Z protest has created a new opportunity to take the country towards the path of good governance. (RSS)
