President Ramchandra Paudel is not offering the Dashain tika to the members of the general public on the occasion of Bada Dashain, the biggest festival of the Nepali people, this year. The Head of State is not offering the 'tika' at the Rashtrapati Bhawan, Sheetal Niwas on the occasion of the Bada Dashain this year, in view of the present adverse situation in the nation, the Office of the President said.
Although it is a tradition for the President giving the Dashain tika to the general public on the occasion of the Bada Dashain festival every year, the President has no such program this time, it is stated. The worship of Durga Bhawani at Dasainghars over nine days concludes formally on the 10th day of the 10-day-long Dashain festival, also known as Vijaya Dashami after the Abhishekh or sprinkling of holy water takes place marking the beginning of 'tika'. Tika and jamara are considered symbols of blessings from the goddess Nawa Durga.
Similarly, Prime Minister Sushila Karki is also not receiving and offering the ritualistic 'Dashain tika' this year. "Although Bada Dashain is a festival celebrated with joy and enthusiasm, this year there will be no Tika ceremony as the painful memory of young lives lost and many injured during the Gen-Z movement is still fresh," said Adarsh Kumar Shrestha, the principal private secretary of Prime Minister Karki.
Prime Minister Karki's secretariat has clarified that in this painful situation PM Karki will neither herself receive nor offer the Dashain tika to the general public. The worship of Durga Bhawani at Dasainghars over nine days concludes formally on the 10th day of Bada Dashain, also known as Vijaya Dashami after the Abhishekh or sprinkling of holy water takes place marking the beginning of 'tika'.
