300 climbers reach Taplejung to ascent Mt Kanchenjunga

The maintaining climbing on the peaks located in Taplejung has started. Two French citizens successfully made the first ascent of the 6,808-meter high White Wave Peak in late September.

According to Tenzin Sherpa of Annapurna Foothills Treks and Expedition, the French citizens who made the ascent are Benjamin Charles Elie Vedrines and Nicolas Paul Aristide.

Last week, a Chilean citizen successfully climbed Mt Pathibhara, which is situated in the lap of Mt Kanchenjunga.

A French citizen had first successfully climbed Mt Kumbhakarna, also known as Phaktanglung in 1962. Last year, four South Korean citizens successfully made the first ascent of Mt Sharphu-5, which is 6,328 meters high in late October.

A Chilean citizen Hernan Leal, mountaineer Lakpa Chhiring Sherpa, Nada Sherpa, and photographer Purnima Shrestha were successful in making the first ascent of the 6,433-meter high Mt Sharpu-4.

According to Tashi Tenzing, a tourism assistant at the Ghunsa Tourism Check Post Office of the Kanchenjunga Conservation Area Management Council, 300 foreign tourists have visited the Mt Kanchenjunga region, the world's third highest mountain. Sherpa stated that the Kanchenjunga trekking season lasts from roughly late August to early December.

According to the Department of Tourism, during last year's season, from March 1 to April 21, a total of 41 individuals (26 men and 15 women) successfully summited Mt Kanchenjunga, which stands at an elevation of 8,586 meters.
