The government has called back all security personnel assigned to former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal. According to a source at the Ministry of Home Affairs, all security personnel from the Armed Police Force (APF) and Nepal Police who were deployed for his security have been called back.
Previously, the government had been providing former Prime Minister Nepal with 16 AFP personnel and two Nepal Police officials.
The Home Ministry source stated that the security personnel were withdrawn because Nepal is an accused in a corruption case related to the Patanjali land controversy.
"He is an accused in a corruption case. For this reason, it was decided not to provide him with security facilities," the Home source said, "However, if he feels he has a security threat, he can submit an application. The government will analyze it and make the necessary decision."
Nepal was released after posting a bail amount of Rs 3.5 million in the Patanjali land controversy case. The verdict in this case is yet to be issued.
The government had previously called back nearly 300 security personnel provided to former and incumbent very important persons (VVIPs) and important persons (VIPs) who were receiving security against the established norms.
