UAE has defeated Nepal by 5 wickets in the ODI tri-series of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 held in Dubai.
Chasing down the 234-run target set by Nepal, UAE managed to reach it in 43.3 overs losing 5 wickets.
To reach the target, Aryans Sharma topped the score with 98 runs including 10 fours and 3 sixes off 98 balls followed by Alishan Sharafu with 45 runs. Sharafu hit 6 fours and 3 sixes off 26 deliveries while Muhammad Waseem and Dhruv Parashar contributed 26 and 16 runs, respectively.
Similarly, Rahul Chopra, Harshit Kaushik and Zahid Ali contributed 15, 13 and 11 runs, respectively. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.
In reply, Sandeep Lamichhane took 2 wickets while Karan KC and Dipendra Singh Airee claimed 1 wicket each for Nepal.
Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss at the ICC Academy ground in Dubai on Thursday, Nepal notched up 233 runs losing all wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
Captain Rohit Paudel topped the score with a century of 109 runs studded with 5 fours and 2 sixes off 130 deliveries. Similarly, Aasif Shiekh scored 35 runs followed by Aarif Sheikh with 27 runs while Dipendra Singh Airee and Karan KC contributed 23 and 13 runs, respectively. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.
On the bowling side, Zahid Ali claimed the highest 4 wicket for 41 runs followed by Junaid Siddique with 3 wickets while Muhammad Rohid and Haider Ali grabbed 1 wicket each for UAE.
Having now played 18 matches in League 2, both teams remain in the bottom two positions of the points table. Nepal stands in the 7th position with 12 points while UAE is in 8th position with 8 points. Having played 22 matches, USA leads the points table with 32 points so far.
In the previous match held on October 26, Nepal lost to USA by 106 runs. Led by Rohit Paudel, the Nepali national cricket team is coached by former Australian cricket Stuart Law.
