Jitendra Sonal, the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province, has resigned after failing to secure a vote of confidence in the Provincial Assembly. He announced his resignation on Saturday after the Madhesh Provincial Assembly denied him the vote of confidence.
"I have submitted this resignation so that the process of forming a government can move forward legally again," Sonal said after his resignation. "After a few days, a situation will arise again, and the party with the majority will form the government."
Stating that he still holds the majority, he also mentioned that he will stake a claim to form the government again. "However, I will lay claim again; we have the majority," he said.
He had become the Chief Minister on October 15 after the former Chief Minister, Satish Kumar Singh, resigned from the post.
He was supported by five parties: his own party, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Nepal, Janata Samajbadi Party, Nepal, Janamat Party, CPN (Maoist Center), and CPN (Unified Socialist).
These parties collectively hold 56 Members of the Provincial Assembly in the Provincial Assembly. In the 107-member Provincial Assembly, 54 seats are required for a majority.
