Member of Parliament (MP) of Madhesh Province Assembly, Kanchan Bicchha, has been relieved of her post.
Lawmaker Bichchha, elected under the proportional representation system from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RPP), was removed from the post by the province secretariat on the party’s recommendation.
According to a letter sent to the Province Assembly Secretariat, the RPP suspended Bichchha from general party membership for six months and recalled her from her position as a province assembly member.
On November 10, then Province Chief of Madhesh Province, Sabitri Subedi Bhandari, had appointed Saroj Kumar Yadav, in his capacity as the the parliamentary party leader of the largest party, CPN (UML), at a hotel in Bardibas, Mahottari. Bhandari had also administered the oath of office and secrecy to Yadav along with other three ministers including Bichchha, a lone MP from RPP.
The other lawmakers were Bimala Ansari of the Sanghiya Loktantrik Samajbadi Party and Lakhan Das of UML. RPP Chairman Rajendra Lingden directed Bichchha to immediately withdraw from the government, warning that action would be taken against her if she failed to comply.
However, Bichchha did not tender her resignation prompting RPP to take action against her.
On the other hand, Yadav who was planning to take the vote of confidence as the per the court's order, has already resigned from his post after the opposition parties did not lend support to him.
Against this backdrop, Madhesh Province is preparing to appoint a new Chief Minister today.
