The Parliamentary Party leader of Nepali Congress, Krishna Prasad Yadav, has been appointed as the Chief Minister of Madhesh Province.
Province Chief Surendra Labh Karna appointed Yadav amidst a ceremony a while ago in line with Article 168 (2) of the Constitution.
Yadav had staked a claim for the post of Chief Minister of the Province with the support of a seven-party alliance on Friday.
The seven parties working to form a new government in Madhesh Province hold more than a two-thirds majority in the Provincial Assembly.
The post of Chief Minister was lying vacant after Saroj Yadav, who was appointed Chief Minister of Madhesh on November 10 as the leader of the largest party, resigned last Wednesday as he failed to secure a majority in the Provincial Assembly.
Following his resignation, seven parties—excluding UML—have stepped forward to form a new government in Madhesh Province.
In the Madhesh Provincial Assembly, Nepali Congress is the second-largest party after UML. The Assembly comprises 25 members from UML, 22 from Nepali Congress, 19 from JSP Nepal, 13 from Janamat Party, 9 each from the CPN (Maoist Center) and Loktantrik Samajbadi Party (LSP), 7 from CPN (Unified Socialist), and 1 each from Nagarik Unmukti Party, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), and Shanghiya Samajbadi Party.
