The construction of 106-megawatt (MW) Jagdulla hydroelectric project is set to start next year.
The project has reached the final stage of distribution of compensation, detailed project report (DPR) and power purchase agreement (PPA).
According to project manager Sanjay Sapkota, construction of the hydropower project will begin next year. He said the project had completed the purchase of 252 ropani land and preparing DPR.
The government has adopted a policy to develop semi-reservoir projects through internal funds. Sapkota added that a file has been submitted to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) for finalizing project PPA.
According to him, work is underway to build access road to the project's powerhouse from Triveni.
Similarly, the project intends to pick contractors and consultants within one year. Project's Manager Sapkota expressed confidence of the project generating power within five years.
The project is building a 23-meter high dam at Hurikot in Jagdulla Rural Municipality-1 and will send the water through a 6.1 kilometer tunnel to Mudkechula Rural Municipality-4 to generate 106 MW of electricity.
It was shared a number of agencies would invest in the project's shares.
The current modality of the share distribution in the project is 26 percent stake of the hydro electricity company itself, 10 percent of the Hydroelectricity Investment and Development Company (HIDCL), and 9 percent of the NEA.
Similarly, project-affected two municipalities -- Mudkechula and Jagdulla -- each have a percent stake, while the Karnali Province government has a 5percent stake.
The remaining 49 percent would be given to the public through initial public offering.
The project, whose costs of construction stands at Rs 20 billion, is expected earn Rs 12 million every day once it comes into operation, according to the developer. The government would start earning around Rs 290 million each year from the project once it is completed.
The company was established on May 30, 2017.
Last year, Karnali Province had provided Rs 117 million 150 thousand for 1.17 million shares to Jagdulla Hydropower Company Limited.
The feasibility study for the construction of a second 83 MW hydropower plant at the location is also being undertaken.
Bheri Corridor construction accelerated
The work of upgrading Bheri Corridor has been expedited as projects such as Jagdulla Hydroelectric Project are to be built. Additionally, work has begun to blacktop the road from Jajarkot to Tallu.
Similarly, the Bheri River bridge between Tallu and Anaha has reached its final stage of completion.
According to Road Division Chaurjahari, the construction of other auxiliary bridges has also begun after intense pressure.
Work is also underway to connect power to the national grid. The work of transmission line is being done in Tallu, and the NEA has called tenders for awarding contracts for works at be done at the municipal level in Dolpa.
