Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba has canceled the meeting with General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwa Prakash Sharma after the latter refused to attend it.

According to a source close to the pro-Special General Convention faction, General Secretaries Thapa and Sharma are heading to Dhulikhel to prepare the report of the Special General Convention.

According to Shankar Kuinkel, the personal secretary of General Secretary Thapa, Thapa is going to Dhulikhel to prepare the report of the special general convention as per the schedule. "Thapa was scheduled to go to Dhulikhel for the preparation of the report for 2 to 4 days. General Secretary Thapa is leaving for Dhulikhel today itself," Kuinkel told Nepalkhabar, "He will come back only after preparing the report."

On the other hand, Central Working Committee (CWC) member Ajay Babu Siwakoti informed Nepalkhabar that a hall has been booked at Bhrikuti Mandap. According to him, the hall has been booked for January 11 and 12 to convene the special convention.

On October 15, a proposal for a Special General Convention was registered at the NC Central Office in Sanepa, backed by the signatures of 54 percent of delegates. According to Article 17 (2) of the party statute, the convention must be convened within three months if at least 40 percent of General Convention delegates demand it.

On December 1, a CWC meeting had unanimously decided to hold the regular convention on January 10-12. The non-establishment faction intensified the demand after the regular general convention did not happen as scheduled.

After the demand of Special General Convention intensified again, President Deuba had called a meeting with General Secretaries for 5 pm today at his residence in Maharajgunj.

Deuba held a meeting with Vice President Purna Bahadur Khadka and leader Ramesh Lekhak on Thursday morning.
