In a high-stakes effort to resolve the simmering internal conflict, top leaders of  Nepali Congress (NC) are currently engaged in a meeting at President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Maharajgunj.

The dialogue, described as a final push for consensus, involves key members of the party’s negotiation committee, including Ramesh Lekhak, Balakrishna Khand, Jeevan Pariyar, and Minendra Rijal, alongside other senior leadership.

Sources close to Deuba indicate a significant shift in the establishment's stance regarding the upcoming elections. In a major gesture of flexibility, President Deuba is reportedly open to a proposal where Acting President Purna Bahadur Khadka would sign off on election tickets.

"President Deuba appears ready to accept this arrangement to ensure party unity," a source close to the establishment told Nepalkhabar.

Key areas of agreement
The two factions within the party have already reached common ground on several contentious issues to pave the way for this final round of talks:

The establishment side has agreed to study, amend, and refine the Special General Convention documents within the Central Committee.

There is a formal commitment to implement the decisions made during the Mahasamiti meeting held in February 2024.

Both sides have agreed to form a Parliamentary Board specifically for the distribution of tickets for the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

Negotiators confirmed that an agreement has been reached to ensure "judicious" ticket distribution, with a commitment to strictly honor the decisions made by the Parliamentary Board.

The ongoing discussions are seen as a critical turning point for the party as it seeks to present a united front ahead of the national polls.
