The police opened fire and arrested a looter from Nagarnjun in Kathmandu on Wednesday night.
Prem Chaudhary, 38, of Banke was arrested from Mahankal of Nagarjun Municipality on Wednesday night.
Ornaments worth Rs 10.4 million had been looted from Rinji Lama's house based at Boudha in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-6 in a broad daylight on Tuesday.
A preliminary investigation of the police shows that Tharu stole the ornaments from Lama's house.
Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of police deployed from the District Police Range, Kathmandu and the Police Circle, Boudha resorted to firing to apprehend Tharu from Nagarjun last night. Tharu was about to flee when he saw the police, said District Police Range, Kathmandu SP Pawan Bhattarai.
"We arrested him at 11 pm yesterday," SP Bhattarai told Nepalkhabar, "He has received a bullet injury to his right leg below the knee. We have also confiscated stolen gold and silver ornaments in his possession."
Chaudhary is undergoing treatment at National Trauma Center. One police man also sustained injuries during the treatment.
Thirty tolas of gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 10 million 453 had been stolen from Lama's house.
Sixty-five tolas of gold and silver ornaments, cash and hand-made weapons were recovered in possession of Chaudhary.
