Nepali Congress (NC) President Gagan Thapa has pledged to transform Nepal into a global IT hub, creating a high-paying jobs in the country once he assumes the role of Prime Minister.
In a video message released on social media on Monday morning, Thapa unveiled the roadmap for the revolution he wants to make in the IT sector.
"A few months ago, I had said in a meeting in Kirtipur that we can make young people earn three to four hundred thousand rupees a month by sitting on the hills of Kirtipur and using laptops," Thapa said. "At that time, it became a laughing stuff, and there was a lot of trolling, too. But, I was not talking nonsense at that time. It was not a matter of a distant dream. It was a matter of my belief that it could be done."
He has also mentioned some plans for the work he wants to do in the IT sector.
"If you remember, during the previous government, we made some improvements in the information technology sector through an ordinance. It showed some immediate results," Thapa said. "It is still my commitment to bring in global scale opportunities through the IT sector."
He also said that although some work has been done in the IT sector in Nepal, it is insufficient.
