A one-week long public holiday including Phagu Poornima, elections, Women's Day and Saturday has started from today.

The government has granted three days of public holidays for the House of Representatives elections to be held on March 5. The government has granted three days of election holidays on March 4, 5 and 6.

Before the election holidays begin, today and tomorrow are Holi festivals. Today, March 2 is a public holiday for Holi in hilly districts, while tomorrow, March 3 is a public holiday in Terai districts.

The day after the election holidays end, March 7 is Saturday. March 8 is Women's Day. Every year, March 8 is celebrated as International Women's Day around the world. The government has also been granting public holidays on that day.

Due to the elections and Holi, vehicles are running thin on the roads of Kathmandu today. Since the public holiday period will be long, this time many people have gone from Kathmandu to their villages to celebrate Holi and participate in the elections.
