The Election Commission (EC) has said it estimated 60 percent voter turnout in the House of Representations election today.

In a press conference organized at Election Commission following the conclusion of voting, Officiating Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari informed that preliminary information showed 60 percent voter turnout. However, detail information is awaited, he said, adding that except very few incidents, the voting concluded peacefully and enthusiastically.

Even the reports of national and international observers mentioned the voting peaceful.

The Officiating Chief Election Commissioner further said ballot boxes were being ferried by Nepali Army helicopters in 15 remote districts. Such transportation was managed in Taplejung, Rasuwa, Dolakha and Rukum Purba for today itself, while in Sankhuwasabha, Solukhumbu, Manang, Humla, Rukumpaschim and Bajura for Friday.

The vote counting begins after the ballot boxes are gathered at the offices of election officers in respective constituencies.

EC has extended thanks to all Nepali citizens who enthusiastically participated in the voting to elect their representatives and those extending support to make this mission successful.

Regarding some voters' boycotting the votes in some polling stations, Bhandari commented that the people might have become indifferent to cast votes because the government or people's representatives failed to fulfill their promises made earlier. It was not dissatisfaction to constitution, nor to system and the Commission, he argued.
