FIFA World Cup 2026 co-hosts Canada kicked off their tournament by sharing points with Bosnia and Herzegovina after a thrilling 1-1 draw on Friday night.
Playing in front of a home crowd at the Toronto Stadium, Canada had to fight from behind in the opening match of Group B—which was also the third match of the tournament.
Bosnia and Herzegovina took an early lead in the 21st minute of the first half. Lovo Lukić found the back of the net with a well-placed header, capitalizing on a pass from Sead Kolašinac following a corner kick by Bašić.
Both teams struggled to break the deadlock in a highly competitive second half. However, Canada’s tactical substitution proved decisive. Super-sub Cyle Larin rescued the hosts just three minutes after coming off the bench. In the 78th minute, Larin skillfully dribbled past Bosnian defender Tarik Muharemović to fire home the equalizer, saving Canada from a home defeat.
Bosnia and Herzegovina entered the tournament as a formidable underdog, having secured their World Cup spot through an unexpected upset against Italy in the playoff finals.
