17th meeting of Nepal-India Power Exchange Committee concludes in Pokhara

The 17th meeting of the Nepal-India Power Exchange Committee was held in Pokhara on Friday.

The two-day-long meeting has agreed to import power to Nepal from India's Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand states for the upcoming year.

The Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), Hitendra Dev Shakya, said that the meeting also decided the power purchase rate for the upcoming year.

NEA's Shakya led the Nepali delegation while Vijay Kumar Singh, the Board of Director of India's Central Electricity Authority, led the Indian team in the meeting.

Earlier, the NEA Board of Directors had provided authority to the Executive Director to do an agreement and sign the power purchase rate after holding talks in the 17th meeting of the Nepal-India Power Exchange Committee.

After the consultations, a consensus was made to increase the power purchase rate by 1.5 per cent compared to the last year.

As agreed, the power to be purchased through the 132 KV transmission line would cost Rs 8.22 per unit while the cost of per unit would be Rs 8.91 for the electricity purchased through the 33 KV transmission line and Rs 9.55 for the electricity imported through 11 KV transmission line.

The agreement is expected to ease Nepal's power supply management in the upcoming dry season.
