Iran has said it is keeping the Strait of Hormuz open to allies, as the US presses for it to open up, a vital route for global energy transport.

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said it is providing access to the Strait of Hormuz to allies including China.

According to the BBC, he said, "We are providing access to the Strait of Hormuz to allies such as China, Russia, India, Iraq and Pakistan."

Iran has said it is keeping it open to allies, despite reports that the route has been closed since the US and Israel launched attacks and that some ships using it have been attacked.

The blockade of the sea route has led to a shortage of oil and gas in many countries around the world, while prices have continued to rise.

The war has been ongoing since the US-Israeli joint airstrikes on February 28 killed top leaders and officials, including Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Meanwhile, Iran has rejected the US's 15-point proposal to end the war and has said it has no intention of negotiating now.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has claimed that Iranian leaders are in talks with him but are afraid to say so.

What is the Strait of Hormuz and where is it?

The Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Arabian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea beyond, is the world's most important energy route.

The Strait of Hormuz, which transports a fifth of the world's oil and a large amount of gas, is located between Oman and the UAE on one side and Iran on the other.

The crude oil that passes through here comes from Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The Strait of Hormuz also plays an important role in the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

According to the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), most of the crude oil passes through the Strait of Hormuz to Asia, with China, India, Japan and South Korea accounting for about 70 percent of the total.

About 30 percent of Europe's jet fuel supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz, and a fifth of the global LNG supply passes through the waterway.

The war between the US, Israel and Iran has spread to the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy routes, causing oil prices to rise sharply.

According to Iranian state media, the final decision to close the Strait of Hormuz will be made by the country's Supreme National Security Council and must be approved by the government.
