Nepali Congress has expressed serious concern over the statement issued by leader Purna Bahadur Khadka as an acting president.
Khadka issued a formal statement on Saturday morning regarding the detention of former PM KP Sharma Oli and NC leader Ramesh Lekhak, notably signing the statement as the party's 'acting president.
NC General Secretary Gururaj Ghimire told Nepalkhabar that Khadka issued a statement going beyond the party’s institutional decision.
Ghimire stated, "The country and the party have both moved forward into a new constitutional phase following the general elections. Issuing an official party statement in this manner undermines our dignity and internal discipline. Specifically, Khadka’s decision to issue a statement as ‘acting president’ is a breach of party protocol, and we are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness."
He said that while a brief discussion took place over the phone on Saturday evening, a meeting of the office bearers is scheduled for today to reach a formal conclusion on this issue.
"We must decide how to respond if he continues to issue statements as 'acting president' and engage in parallel activities," he said. "There is even discussion regarding the suspension of his active membership renewal," said he.
NC has decided to update all active memberships.
