The Government of India and the Government of Nepal today on Wednesday signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to launch seven new High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs) across Nepal. The initiatives, valued at approximately Rs. 473 million, focus on the critical sectors of education, health, and agriculture.
The agreements were signed by the Embassy of India, the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (MoFAGA), and various local project implementing agencies.
The new projects are spread across six provinces to ensure balanced regional development.
The projects include construction of two cold storage facilities in Nawalpur (Gandaki) and Tehrathum (Koshi Province), new school buildings, hostels, and canteens for institutions in Mustang, Kailali, Dolpa, and Banke and construction of the Paroha Birthing Center in Rautahat (Madhesh Province).
These projects will be executed through Nepal’s local municipal authorities. This latest batch brings the total number of Indian-funded HICDPs in Nepal to 598 since 2003. To date, 506 of these projects have been successfully completed, providing essential infrastructure in water supply, sanitation, connectivity, and public utilities across all seven provinces.
An embassy spokesperson stated that the implementation of these projects underscores India’s continued commitment to bolstering Nepal’s infrastructure and supporting the government’s efforts in socio-economic growth.
