In a landmark move for Nepal’s Information Technology sector, a major initiative is underway to establish world-class data centers in Nepal. This project is spearheaded by Bichuten Data Vault, a joint venture comprising Nepal’s leading industrial powerhouses, in strategic collaboration with Google Cloud.
The project integrates cutting-edge technology through a multi-partner ecosystem. Bichuten provides Nepal with high-tier computing power, secure data storage, advanced data analytics, and machine learning (ML) capabilities.
Simultaneously, the digital ecosystem is seeing further diversification with Meta (parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp). In collaboration with Worldlink Communications, Meta is investing approximately Rs 5 billion to develop a Tier-III Data Center in Nepal. This facility will serve as a local node to reduce latency for Meta’s suite of apps and improve the overall internet experience for millions of Nepali users.
This surge in high-tech investment coincides with the strategic "IT Highway" vision of the Balen-led government. The administration has prioritized digital infrastructure as a core pillar of economic transformation, aiming to leverage Nepal’s hydroelectric potential to power sustainable, "green" data centers.
The Chobhar facility is currently in its final stage and is scheduled to commence operations in August 2026.
This is a crucial addition for Nepal. Traditional air cooling is energy-intensive; VVDN’s liquid cooling solutions will significantly lower the Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) ratio, making the data centers more environmentally friendly.
