The Nepali Army has completed a 10.8-kilometer section of the 162-kilometer trade route from Indian market Jogbani via Biratnagar to China via Kimathanka in Sankhuwasabha. In addition to opening the new track, the Army has also upgraded existing portions of the road.
According to the project, the army has completed the upgradation work in a geographically difficult, rocky area. Goods were also transported by helicopter for the construction work.
The blacktop work from Chainpur to Khandbari, the district headquarters of Sankhuwasabha, has already been completed. The project has stated that construction materials and workers have been brought from the Chinese region.
In 2060 BS, an agreement was reached between Nepal and China to open the Kimathanka border crossing. This is a short route connecting India and China via Nepali land. So far, there are two border crossings connecting China and Nepal east of the Saptakoshi River, with Kimathanka being one of them.
