Digital economy and good governance major focuses in budget: FinMin Wagle

Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle has said the policies and programmes the government released was based on the promises and commitment papers Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) presented before the people during election. The budget for the upcoming fiscal year would also be brought accordingly, he informed.

Minister Dr Wagle said it while addressing the 'Kantipur Economic Summit’ organized by Kantipur Media Group in the federal capital on Wednesday. In his virtual address to the event, the Finance Minister reminded that good governance was accorded top priority in the reform agenda, while the economic development carried equal significance in the policies and programmes unveiled on Monday. The government is devoted to ensure dividends of good governance to the people, Dr Wagle shared.

According to him, the upcoming budget gives a special focus on e-governance, digital delivery and the digital economy. Service delivery will be made effective through promotion of digital applications, he added. Entire works related to information and technology would be carried out by the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, he said, adding that the current import-based economy would be restructured for paving way to national prosperity. Adoption of austerity is another measure, while only necessary Nepali missions would be run abroad.

Earlier, Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyaya said good governance was government's utmost priority. Boosting self-confidence of the private sector counts much to which policy-level adjustment would be in place.

Similarly, President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry,  Anjan Shrestha, sought government's seriousness towards ensuring security to the private sector so that they could advance businesses confidently.
