The Parliamentary Hearing Committee (PHC) has started the hearing process of the proposed Chief Election Commissioner and Commissioners.
The hearing committee meeting convened on Thursday took forward the hearing process regarding the persons proposed for appointment. The Constitutional Council meeting recommended the names of Man Bahadur Karki as the Chief Election Commissioner, Dr Rajib Subba and Guru Prasad Wagle as the Commissioners.
The committee has decided to invite complaints against the three proposed people by over the next 10 days. Committee Chairman Bodhanarayan Shrestha said that the time has been set for filing complaints until July 20.
After that, the complaints will be opened on July 21. Preparations are underway to study the complaints on July 21 and 22 and hold the first hearing on July 23. He said that the time for studying may be extended in case of a large number of complaints.
"10 days will be enough for the complaint invitation staring July, we will open and study the complaints on July 22 and 23. We will start the first hearing on July 7,” Shrestha said, “If more complaints are received, we will increase the study time accordingly, and we will decide in the next meeting.”
The committee has instructed the committee secretary to publish a notice through the government media and the website of the federal parliament to invite complaints.
The committee chairman Shrestha informed that a person with disabilities will be allowed to bring one assistant. There is a constitutional provision that the hearing committee will be appointed after discussing the complaints received and approving the proposed names.
The Constitutional Council meeting held on July 3 had recommended the names of the Chief Election Commissioner and the commissioners.
