Nanda Gurung, a member of the Provincial Assembly elected as Speaker of Karnali Province, has taken the oath of office and secrecy.
Karnali Province Chief Tilak Pariyar administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected Speaker Gurung today.
In the third meeting of the first session of the second term of the Provincial Assembly held today, Speaker Gurung was elected by a majority.
Gurung, from CPN-UML was elected as the Speaker of the House as the common candidate of the ruling alliance, and was elected the proportional Provincial Assembly member from Surkhet.
24 of the 38 MPs cast ballots for Gurung, out of the 40 members of the provincial assembly.
Similar to this, Khadga Pokharel, the Nepali Congress nominee for Speaker, received 14 votes.
Gurung, who was proportionally chosen from UML Surkhet, is the first female Speaker in Karnali's history.
