Death toll from Nepal floods and landslides hits 86; 72 missing

The death toll from floods, landslides, and inundation due to heavy rainfall for the last three days has reached 86 people as of 8:30 pm Saturday.

Earlier, 65 people had died till 5.00 pm, according to the latest information. With the confirmation of 21 more fatalities, the death toll has reached 87.

Spokesperson of Armed Police Force Nepal, Deputy Inspector General Kumar Neupane confirmed the death of 86 people and informed that 72 others are still missing.

According to him, 43 people have died in the Kathmandu Valley alone.  Twenty people died in Kathmandu, five in Bhaktapur, and 18 in Lalitpur.

Likewise, 14 people have died in Kavrepalanchowk, seven people died in Makwanpur, five in Panchthar, four in Sindhupalchowk, and three in Dolakha, the police said.  Similarly, 10 people died in Koshi Province and 29 in Bagmati Province.

Nine people are missing in Koshi Province including five in Panchthar and four in Jhapa, one in Madhesh Province, 21 in Kathmandu Valley, 39 in Bagmati Province including 26 in Kavre and five in Sindhupalchowk, and two in Lumbini Province. 

Similarly, another 36 people were injured.

According to the police, 853 people have been rescued from Koshi, 56 from Madhesh Province, 1,457 from the Valley, and 494 from Bagmati.
