Two people died and three others, including the driver, sustained injuries after a Bolero jeep veered off the road and plunged into a deep gorge in Dadeldhura district in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
The vehicle (Su.Pa.Pra. 01-001 Ja 1850), heading toward Darchula from Dhangadhi, skidded off the road and fell around 400 meters down a cliff at Kharsyakhan along the Bhimdatta Highway in Amargadhi Municipality-7. The incident occurred at around 2:00 am.
According to the District Police Office, Dadeldhura, the deceased have been identified as 45-year-old Sugan Lothyal and 28-year-old Hanu Lothyal, both residents of Apihimal Rural Municipality-1 in Darchula.
Police Inspector Bhaskar Chand, the information officer for the Dadeldhura police, identified the injured as Amar Singh Thagunna, 50, of Marma Rural Municipality, Darchula; Saraswati Lothyal, 35, of Apihimal Rural Municipality-1, Darchula; and the jeep driver, Amrit Gharedi, of Dilasaini Rural Municipality-2, Baitadi.
All three injured individuals are currently undergoing medical treatment at the Dadeldhura Hospital.
Preliminary assessments indicate that the jeep lost control before plunging down the cliff. While the exact cause of the crash remains unknown, local authorities confirmed that further investigation into the incident is underway.
