Nepali Congress (NC) lawmaker Ishwari Neupane has registered her candidacy for the post of Speaker.
NC General Secretary Bishwa Prakash Sharma proposed Neupane as the candidate for the post while her candidacy was seconded by Prakash Jwala, a lawmaker of CPN Unified Socialist).
She has registered her candidacy for the post at the Federal Parliament Secretariat before 4 pm.
Party president Sher Bahadur Deuba in a meeting with General Secretary duo Gagan Thapa, Bishwa Prakash Sharma and Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak had finalized her name.
With the nomination filing, Ishwari will contest the elections with CPN (UML) candidate Devraj Gimire for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Ghimire has been fielded as a candidate for the election of the Speaker by the ruling coalition. The ruling coalition is comprised of seven parties including CPN (UML).
Neupane, an NC lawmaker under the proportional representation category, is considered close to the establishment.
The deadline for the filing of nominations was set from 1 pm to 4 pm today. The election of the Speaker will be held tomorrow.
