Indira Rana Magar has been elected as the deputy speaker of the House of Representatives.
In the election held on Saturday, Rastriya Swatantra Party lawmaker Rana Magar, a candidate fielded by the ruling coalition, received 166 votes to become the deputy speaker.
Nepali Congress candidate Mukta Kumari Yadav got 97 votes. As many as 264 members were present in the voting.
CPN (UML), CPN (Maoist Center), Rastriya Swatantra Party, and Rastriya Prajatantra Party voted for Rana Magar while Prem Suwal, the lawmaker of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party remained neutral in the voting.
Similarly, NC and CPN (Unified Socialist) voted for Yadav.
UML lawmaker Devraj Ghimire was elected as Speaker on January 19 with the support of the ruling parties.
An agreement has already been reached between the ruling parties to give the presidentship to the UML and the vice-presidential position to the Maoist Center.
On the other hand, the opposition NC has also staked a claim for the presidency. With the support of the ruling Maoist Center, the NC is said to be hoping that its party will get the president.
