Mayor of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality, Tirtha Raj Bhattarai, handed over the Nepali gifts to Okhawa Hideko, the mayor of Tochigi City.
Mayor Bhattarai, during his friendly visit to Japan, presented bhune, a bamboo wicker, basket, and idols of Nepal’s mountains and Buddha, among others, which closely embody Kirant cultures, to Okhawa on Thursday.
Posting a status on social networking sites, Surya Rai, an educational activist, said, "It is a matter of pride for Mayor Bhattarai to carry the original, cultural identity artifacts of Nepal to Japan."
During a meeting with mayor of Tochigi City, Bhattarai said that he visited Japan with the aim of bolstering friendly age-old ties subsisting between Nepal and Japan.
Meanwhile Bhattarai also invited Okhawa to visit Diktel Majhuwagadhi municipality during the meeting. “
Bhattarai embarked on an official visit to Japan in line with the decision taken by the cabinet meeting on December 24.
“I found the infrastructure development in Japan even better and more sophisticated than what I had heard and studied before,” said Bhattarai.
Bhattarai was welcomed with great honor by the Tochigi City, said Mandip Chhetri, NRNA Tochigi, chairman.
The meeting between the mayors of the two municipalities has helped establish a sustainable bilateral ties between the two countries, said Nima Sherpa, chairman of Sherpa Trade Link Company, Japan.
