The death toll from the massive earthquake that hit Turkey this morning has crossed 1,200.
According to international media reports, at least 912 people died in Turkey and 320 are reported killed in the neighboring country Syria.
The earthquake hit near the border between the two countries. That means the total estimated death toll for the quake now exceeds 1,200.
President of Turkey Recep Erdogan said that at least 5,383 people had been wounded in Turkey. Dozens more are injured in Syria.
The death tolls in both countries are expected to rise.
The 7.8 magnitude quake struck near Gaziantep in the early hours of Monday while people were asleep.
Second quake hits south-east Turkey
A second earthquake has struck in south-eastern Turkey, with its epicenter near the city of Kahramanmaras, according to reports.
The US Geological Survey said it had measured the strength of the quake to be 7.5 magnitude.
