Sudurpaschim Province Assembly meeting postponed

CM unlikely to receive confidence vote

A provincial assembly meeting of Sudurpaschim Province scheduled for today to take the vote of confidence has been postponed.

The meeting has been postponed after Chief Minister Rajendra Singh Rawal was unlikely to get the vote of confidence.

"A meeting of the province assembly was called for 11 am today to take the vote of confidence has been cancelled," said Narendra Kunwar, the spokesperson of the Sudurpaschim Province Secretariat.

Nagarik Unmukti Party Chairman Ranjita Shrestha said her party will not give the vote of confidence to Chief Minister Rawal for his failure to address its demands. Rawal cannot receive the vote of confidence if the NUP does not support him.

The meeting called for January 25 for the vote of confidence was postponed citing the lack of conducive environment. 

Rawal who was appointed as the chief minister on January 11. There is a constitutional provision that the chief minister has to take a vote of confidence within one month of the appointment.

Rawal had been appointed as the chief minister with the support of 29 lawmakers including 11 lawmakers from CPN (Maoist Center), 10 from CPN (UML), seven from NUP, and one from Rastriya Prajatantra Party.
