After the recent Nepal visit by US Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, and USAID Administrator Samantha Power, another US official is arriving in Nepal in the coming week.

According to the Foreign Ministry, US Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs (SCA), Afreen Akhter, is arriving in Kathmandu on Monday.

Akhter looks after the South and Central Asian Affairs for Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, and the Maldives, as well as the Office of Security and Transnational Affairs.

Akhter will stay in Nepal for two to three days. During her Nepal visit, she will hold meetings with high-level Nepali officials including Foreign Minister Bimala Rai Paudyal.

USAID head Power returned to America after wrapping up her Nepal visit. She had landed in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

During her two-day Nepal visit, Power held meetings with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', Finance Minister Bishnu Paude, and Foreign Minister Bimala Rai Paudyal.

Prior to Power's visit, US Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Victoria Nuland, had visited Nepal. She had held meetings with high-level officials of Nepal including the prime minister.

Akhter will be the third US official after Prime Minister Prachanda was appointed as the Prime Minister of Nepal on December 25.

After the formation of the new government in the last week of December, visits to Nepal from America have increased.
