EC sets April 23 to hold by-election in Chitwan 2

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to hold a by-election in Chitwan constituency 2 on April 23.

A meeting of the Election Commission (EC) on Sunday took a decision to this effect in line with the Section 68 of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2074.

The lawmaker’s post of had been vacant after the Supreme Court on January 27 disqualified Rabi Lamichhane as the Member of Parliament (MP) on the ground of  having invalid citizenship certificate.

According to the election program passed by the EC today, the voters’ list will be updated from February 1 to March 29.

Similarly, candidates will file nominations on April 2 and complaints against the candidacies, if any, can be lodged on April 3. 

The final list of the candidates will be published on April 23 and the elections symbol will be given to the candidates on the same day.
