EC submits annual report to President

The Election Commission has presented its 16th annual report to the President. Chief Election Commissioner Dinesh Kumar Thapaliya presented the report to President Bidya Devi Bhandari amidst a program at the Office of the President, Sheetal Niwas.

 On the occasion, the President thanked the Commission for successfully conducting the latest elections of the local level on May 13, 2022 and the elections to the member of the House of Representatives and the Province Assembly on November 20, 2022.  “Periodic elections are the lifeline of democracy,” the Head-of-the State said, adding that the EC had proved the significance of the timely elections.  

Advising the EC to continue with collecting voters’ details and updating voter list, the President urged it to ensure the provision allowing voters’ to take part in the voting towards the proportional representation electoral system from an area convenient to them.

Similarly, the President urged the EC to pay attention for ensuring full security of polling stations and building an atmosphere in which all voters could exercise their franchise confidently, underlining the need of effective implementation of voter education.  The President wanted the EC to launch a special awareness campaign targeting all secondary schools across the country.

The Chief Election Commissioner presented the major annual accomplishments and executions of the EC in brief before the President.  As he said, the EC carried out duties roles and responsibilities within its jurisdictions set by the Constitution and other relevant laws and has already handed the draft of the integrated electoral law to the Nepal government.

Election Commissioners Ishwori Prasad Poudyal, Ram Prasad Bhandari, Dr Janaki Kumari Tuladhar, Sagun Shumsher JB Rana and EC Secretary Gokarnamani Duwadi were also present on the occasion.
