Nepal is preparing to send medical supplies and warm clothes to earthquake victims in Turkey.
Anil Pokharel, executive head of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), said (that) the materials are being sent as per the request of the Turkish government.
The materials will be sent by a flight of Turkish Airlines on Monday morning.
Although it was scheduled to be sent by Friday, it was delayed by a few days after Turkey took time to give the clearance.
"We asked through diplomatic channels what materials Turkey needs. Turkey mainly demanded three types of materials. The materials are going to be sent accordingly. We are also sending more materials for women and children," Pokharel told Nepalkhabar.
Nepal has prepared to send medicines, health equipment and warm clothes to Turkey in view of the cold weather. The weather in Turkey has now dropped to minus 10 degree Celsius.
Medicines, health equipment and warm clothes like blankets, jackets and tracksuits will be sent to the earthquake victims.
The Turkish government sent a letter through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stating that the materials are urgently needed.
Those materials are being collected and sent from the government warehouse and from the private sector including Nepal Red Cross.
No manpower required
Even though it was decided to send a rescue team with medical personnel from Nepal, Turkey said that the manpower is not needed now.
Health Secretary Dr Roshan Pokharel said only materials will be sent according to Turkey’s request.
Last Monday, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake hit Gaziantep, Turkey's major city bordering with Syria.
Over 29,000 people have died in the Turkey-Syria earthquake and thousands more have been injured.
