Visiting Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra has paid a courtesy call on Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Monday evening.
Kwatra went to Dhumbarahi, the resident of Deuba, to meet with the NC President.
Bilateral interests and cooperation between the two countries were discussed during the meeting.
“It was good to meet with India's Foreign Secretary Shri Vinay Mohan Kwatra. We discussed various issues of mutual interest and strengthening people-to-people ties. Our shared goal is to deepen Nepal-India relations for the benefit of our peoples,” Deuba’s secretariat tweeted.
Earlier, Kwatra, who arrived in Kathmandu on a two-day official visit to Nepal, held meetings with Bharat Raj Paudyal, the secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Finance Minister Bimala Rai Paudyal.
Kwatra is also scheduled to hold meetings with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, President Bidya Bhandari, CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli, among others during his stay in Kathmandu.
According to sources, Kwatra will meet with Janamat Party Chairman Chandra Kanta (CK) Raut, Loktantrik Samajbadi Party Chairman Mahantha Thakur and Janata Samajbadi Party Chairman Uprendra Yadav. He will also pay a courtesy call on Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden, it is learnt.
This is the first highest level official visit to Nepal from southern neighbor India after Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ took charge as the Prime Minister on December 25 last year.
The Indian Foreign Secretary will return home on Tuesday.
