A meeting between Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli did not strike consensus on the presidential election after they did not budge from their respective stances.
Oli, who reached Baluwatar this morning to meet with Prachanda, discussed the presidential elections in a bid to forge consensus on the presidential candidate from 10 am to 12 pm.
The meeting did not strike a deal after Prachanda reiterated his stance on electing the president through the consensus from all the political parties represented in the parliament.
“Both the leaders are sticking to their guns. Prime Minister Dahal said that the president should be elected through consensus at least among the major parties,” said a leader, “We should not derail from the old consensus. Consensus should be forged on the candidate fielded by us.”
Oli left Baluwatar for Balkot with an understanding to hold discussions on this issue tomorrow again.
UML has been saying that there should be consensus on the candidate fielded by it for the post of the president.
Parties have to file a nomination for the post of president on February 25 and the election is scheduled for March 9.
“UML Publicity Department Deputy Chief Bishnu Rijal said a candidate acceptable to all the parties represented in the ruling alliance will be fielded for the post of president. This alliance will continue.”
