Main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has formally proposed Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda to help in the presidential election scheduled for March 9.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, who reached Baluwatar with other top leaders on Sunday evening, made the proposal to the Prime Minister.
According to sources, the NC made the proposal to Prachanda with the assurance of helping him as the prime minister for the entire five years.
The NC, which was not ready to make Prachanda the Prime Minister on December 25, went to Baluwatar with the strategy of reinstating the then five-party alliance and ousting the CPN-UML from power.
After Deuba asked Prime Minister Dahal to help him, the latter said he would respond by taking a concrete decision on this issue at the party office-bearers' meeting on Monday.
On December 25, a seven-party alliance was formed and an agreement was reached to give the president to the UML. But Prachanda is advocating for national consensus after getting NC's vote on January 10.
Deuba along with other top party leaders reached Baluwatar this evening to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
President Deuba, who is also a former Prime Minister, reached Baluwatar along with top NC leaders including senior leader Ram Chandra Paudel and General Secretary Gagan Thapa.
Meanwhile, CPN (Maoist Center) has called a meeting of its office-bearers on Monday to discuss the presidential election.
Election Commission has set February 25 for filing nominations for the presidential election.
