With the date for presidential election fast-approaching, political leaders have intensified meetings to forge consensus on the presidential candidate.

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli have held a one-on-one meeting at Baluwatar this morning.

Latest political developments, presidential and vice presidential elections were discussed in the meeting, sources have said.

Similarly, coalition partner Rastriya Swatantra Party Chairman Rabi Lamichhane and Rastriya Prajatantra Party Chairman Rajendra Lingden are also holding meetings with Prime Minister Dahal today to finalize the presidential candidate.

Election Commission (EC) has set February 25 for filing nominations and March 9 for the election of the president.

Meanwhile, Nepali Congress (NC) has claimed that it will reinstate the previous five-party alliance within a few days.

New ripples have been triggered in the Nepali political spectrum after UML that wanted to field the presidential candidate from its own party, proposed CPN (Unified Socialist) Chairman Madhav Nepal for the Head of State.

Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba along with top NC leaders had reached Baluwatar a few days earlier and asked Dahal to extend help in the presidential elections.

UML has been irked by the latest move of the NC that gave the vote of confidence to Prime Minister Dahal on January.

Maoist Center, the third largest party in the parliament, is the kingmaker in the presidential elections.
