Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Ashok Singh has resigned from his post.

Singh reached the personnel administration branch of the police headquarters on Wednesday afternoon and tendered his resignation, a highly placed source told Nepalkhabar.

He submitted his resignation after a legal expert whom he consulted suggested that it would be more appropriate for him to resign rather than face litigation.

Before resigning, Singh met Inspector General of Police Dhiraj Pratap Singh and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachand’.

A complaint was lodged at the Commission for Investigation of Abuse of Authority stating Singh had two different dates of birth.

In the records maintained by the Nepal Police, it was found that the dates on his citizenship and educational certificates differed by more than one and a half years.
