High Court, Pokhara has given a clean chit to actor Paul Shah, who has been languishing in Tanahun District prison after being convicted of rape.

With the high court's decision, Shah will be freed from the jail tomorrow (Monday), said Shah's lawyer Kamal Mohan Wagle.

Hearing the case filed by Shah seeking an acquittal against the decision of District Court Nawalpur, he was given the clean chit by a joint bench of High Court Judge Dilli Raj Acharya and Shridhara Kumari Pudasani.

Despite being acquitted of raping a minor, the District Court, Nawalpur had sentenced Paul to two and a half years in jail on the charges of child sexual abuse.

On February 23, 2022, a complaint was filed against him in District Court, Tanahun.  Four days later, Paul Shah surrendered at the District Police Office, Tanahun.

The clean chit given by the high court will be sent to the District Court, Nawalpur. He will be released from the jail once the district court sends the order in writing to the prison, said Shree Lal Paudel, the Registrar at the High Court, Pokhara.

Shah has already been acquitted by the District Court, Tanahun.

Shah had filed an appeal at High Court, Pokhara, against the District Court Nawalpur’s decision, seeking an acquittal. After hearing the case on Sunday, the high court give him the clean chit on the ground of having no sufficient evidence.
