The eight-party alliance led by Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to systematically carry out the publicity campaign for the presidential elections.

A meeting of the new alliance convened at the prime minister's residence in Baluwatar on Sunday evening, designated a focal person from all the parties to vote for NC leader Ram Chandra Poudel, a common candidate for the president, said Manoj Bhatta, the General Secretary of the Rastriya Janamorcha.

The focal persons are Purna Bahadur Khadka from Nepali Congress, Dev Gurung from CPN (Maoist Center), Bedu Ram Bhusal from CPN (Unified Socialist), and Rajendra Shrestha from Janata Samajbadi Party.

Similarly, Abdul Khan from Janamat Party, Sharat Singh Bhandari from Loktantrik Samajbadi Party, Ranjita Shrestha from Nagarik Unmukti Party, and Chitra Bahadur KC from Rastriya Janamorcha, said General Secretary Bhatta.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' urged all the parties to take the collective initiative to elect the common candidate.

The election of the president is being held on March 9.

Prime Minister Prachanda on Friday formed a new alliance including the NC, leaving the UML.
