Province 1 likely to be named as 'Koshi'

The proposal of renaming Province 1, which has been pending for a long time, will be submitted in the Provincial Assembly meeting today.

Province 1 government is making preparations to submit the proposal in the provincial meeting today, Minister Bhakti Sitaula, who is also the spokesperson of the Province 1, said.

The issue of naming the province had been postponed due to differences among the parties. The proposal is being submitted as an agenda in the meeting for the first time by the new government led by Chief Minister Hikmat Karki.

The provincial meeting is taking place today. According to a highly-placed source, the preparations are underway to name Province 1 as Koshi Province.

Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Uddhav Thapa said ‘Koshi’ would be acceptable to his party. “Parties have agreed to Koshi. The proposal will be submitted and endorsed in the meeting today," Thapa said.

Taking to social networking sites, Maoist Center lawmaker Ganesh Upreti said Province Assembly meeting will finalize an important issue today left pending by the previous Province Assembly. Province 1 will get its today.”

Despite several discussions to finalize the naming issue, Province 1 has not finalized it.
