US issues record number of visas to Nepali nationals in September

The United States Embassy in Kathmandu has issued over 2,000 visitor visas to Nepali nationals in September this year, marking it a record number of approvals for America.

According to reports, the US Embassy granted visitor visas to 2054 Nepali nationals in September. Overall, the US government issued visitor visas to 2,330 Nepali individuals in the same month. Since March 2017, the US State Department started to disclose the number of visitor visas on annual basis.

The US Embassy in Kathmandu is also renewing a significant number of visitor visas without conducting interviews, too.

The embassy is renewing visitor visas to such people who have already been granted visitor visas to the United States, and those who are waiting to renew their visas after the expiry of 48 months. Similarly, individuals those who never obtained non-immigrant visas in the past have been given student visas without conducting the interviews.

All most all diplomatic missions in Kathmandu have resumed their visa services after the COVID-19 pandemic. However, applicants it is very difficult to confirm visa appointments. It takes on an average 377 days (including weekend and official holidays) to get visa appointments at the US Embassy in Kathmandu.
