Dr. Swarnim Wagle, a candidate of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has been elected as a member of the House of Representatives from Tanahun 1.
Wagle won the by-election with 34,480 votes. His rival Nepali Congress candidate Govinda Bhattarai received 20, 092 votes.
Similarly, Sarbendra Khanal, a candidate from CPN (UML), obtained 8,555 votes. Swarnim took the lead here in this constituency since the very start.
On March 29, Wagle had formally announced his resignation from the Congress to join the RSP led by Rabi Lamichhane.
On the same day, RSP had made him a candidate from Tanahun-1.
Born in Gorkha, Wagle holds a Master's Degree in International Development from Harvard University and a Doctoral Degree in Economics from Australian National University.
