Pro-identity groups shouted slogans against CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli who reached his home district Jhapa.
On his way from Kathmandu via Chandragadhi Airport on Wednesday, Oli had to face fierce opposition from pro-identity groups.
After knowing that there will be a protest, a large number of security personnel were deployed to protect Oli.
But after Oli reached Buddhashanti Rural Municipality, a huge number of identity groups started shouting slogans against the naming of Koshi Province.
Demonstrators took to the streets shouting slogans, “Abolish Koshi Province, Identity Cannot be Erased,” Koshi is not Needed.”
The protestors also pelted stones on Oli's skirting team while the police took Oli's car to the meeting place of UML workers under strict security.
Speaking in the parliament meeting held on Wednesday, UML lawmaker Padam Giri claimed that the activists of the ruling party tried to attack the program held in Jhapa on Wednesday.
He expressed anger saying that the ruling party, which has the responsibility of maintaining the peace and security of the country, made a commotion, by pelting stones and trying to disrupt the program attended by Chairman Oli.
Chief Whip Giri also warned UML that such actions against the leadership of his party, which is playing a constructive role for the peace, prosperity and development of the country, will not be tolerated.
