Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) led by Rabi Lamichhane has decided not to join the government led by Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda.'
A member of parliament (MP) informed that the joint meeting of the Central Committee and the Parliamentary Party held in Basundhara on Friday decided to withdraw the support given to the government.
"The joint meeting has decided to withdraw the support given to the government and stay in opposition," a RSP MP told Nepalkhabar.
Earlier, the RSP meeting held last Monday had decided to hold a decisive meeting today.
Rabi Lamichhane, who became the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister for Home Affairs following the November elections, left the government due to his citizenship row.
Lamichhane, after taking Nepali citizenship again according to the procedure, won the by-election held on April 23 and became a member of the House of Representatives from Chitwan-2 again.
After Rabi lost the post of MP on January 27, RSP quit the government on February 5.
Despite Rabi's passport dispute, RSP supported the ruling coalition in the presidential election on March 9.
Earlier, Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ had asked him to join the government again.
Meanwhile, CPN (UML) Chairman KP Sharma Oli called Rabi to Balkot and asked him to stay in opposition.
Amidst Prachanda and Oli's urges, the RSP has now decided to withdraw its support to the government and decided to stay in opposition.
